Like most U.S. states, the best soccer clubs in Massachusetts are located near the largest cities. So here, Boston, Worcester and Springfield are the three biggest cities. Although, some of the clubs have teams spread as far west as Berkshire and Hampshire County. Others have teams in Rhode Island and New Hampshire. How to rank youth soccer clubs
When talking about the best soccer clubs in Massachusetts it’s important to look at all ages. From high school kids being recruited to college down to the development for young beginners.
Current league standings and previous national competitions/playoffs.
Quality of coaching starting at the younger ages [7-10]. How teams do nationally/regionally from [11-18]
Training locations also help a club when it comes to parents/players choosing options.
Like most states, some clubs bread and butter is developing young players who later move on. While other clubs only have older teams at the higher levels.
Boys top 2 leagues are MLS Next and ECNL.
Girls top 3 leagues are ECNL, GA and ECNL-R.
There are currently 6 clubs that seem to stand out from the rest in terms of competitions and online presentation.
FC Stars
➡️ FC Stars has over 30 coaches and 200+ teams.
Established in 2000
Their goal is to provide serious soccer players with the environment needed to maximize their potential.
FC Stars has won 32 State Cup Championships in the past 15 years. FC Stars teams also perform on a national basis and in 2005 the U19 Girls team at the time won the USYSA National Championship. In 2015, the U16 NPL boys team won the US Club Soccer National Championship and the U16 ECNL girls team were ECNL National Championship Finalists.
Ages: 7-18 year boys and girls
Leagues: Competes in ECNL, RAL, NECSL
College commits: 30-50 each year
Locations: Lancaster, MA (Boston area) Also sites as far west as Worcester and one up north in New Hampshire.
NEFC
➡️ NEFC is a massive club with 3,000 youth players and over 80 coaches. Players come from MA, NH and RI. Of all the soccer clubs in Massachusetts this arguably the largest.
Clubwide teams compete in the nation’s premier leagues and traveling nationally for high-level tournaments. They practice 3-4 times per week, 10 months of the year.
NEFC Spring Showcase is one of the Top Ranked Tournaments in the Country. Teams representing the GA, MLS, ECNL, DPL, NEP, and EDP are expected to participate.
Ages: U7-U18 boys and girls.
Leagues: MLS Next, GA, NAL Central, NAL South Apex, National League
College commits: 40-100 per class
Locations: Mendon and Northboro, MA + multiple facilities/fields – all top of the line.
FC Boston Scorpions
➡️ The FC Boston Scorpions has over 2,000 players, 120 coaches, teams across 30 towns.
One of New Englands oldest clubs, serving both Massachusetts and Rhode Island with multiple training sites.
Established in 1998
Ages: 4-7 juniors, 8-18 select
3 national championships
Leagues: ECNL, ECNL-R, Girls State Select, Boys State Select
Locations: Walpole & Taunton, MA + [Girls] Metorwest, East, South, Rhode Island [Boys] Metrowest & Rhode Island
South Shore Select
➡️ South Shore Select is a strong program with over 30 coaches.
Mission statement: Our goal is to develop strong, confident and well-rounded girls and boys through the game of soccer. Our hope is to make these kids the best players they can be, while maintaining their love and passion for the game of soccer. We strive to make each player a better individual off the field as well by teaching them about a sense of community and social responsibility. We want them to remember their time on the soccer field as a positive, competitive and heartfelt experience that prepared them for their future endeavors.
Established in 2015
Ages: They offer soccer to boys and girls to these age groups – Tots ages 2-5, Futures 4-8 and Select 9-18.
Leagues: ECNL and local
College commits: 5 – 30 per year
Location: Hingham, MA [Boston area]
Boston Bolts
➡️The Boston Bolts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and they state they’re the oldest and most prestigious soccer club in New England.
With a culture rooted in hard work, persistence, and grit. The club’s diverse membership includes families from all walks of life across the state. From both domestic and international backgrounds, creating an environment of rich, cultural diversity.
Established in 1986
Ages: 7-18
Leagues: The Boys compete in MLS Next, NE Academy, National Academy League. Girls compete in National Academy League
Locations: Newton, MA (Boston area) Although, they have a location as far as Hampshire County.
New England Revolution Academy
➡️The Revolution Academy is a boys MLS Academy with 7 total teams, 1 for each age group U13-U19.
In 2022 & 2023 they became the first program to win back-to-back MLS NEXT Cup championships, doing so at the Under-19 level.
The Revolution Academy youth teams are fully funded by the New England Revolution. All players’ expenses related to competition are paid for by the Revs, including training, facilities, adidas uniforms and training gear, and game/tournament-related travel expenses.
